“We Melt What We Consume!” Event Held as Carbon Neutral

Dear ÖzÜ Members,

The “We Melt What We Consume!” event, organized within the scope of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Zero Waste Management System, was held on April 16, 2026, on our campus with the participation of our students.

The event, which aimed to raise sustainability awareness, was implemented as carbon neutral. The carbon footprint generated by the event was calculated, and a total of 1 ton of CO₂ equivalent emissions was offset by contributing to a renewable energy project with the support of Commited. The offsetting process was carried out through Gold Standard-certified carbon credits, and the relevant certificate is attached.

Within the scope of the event:

• Information was provided on ÖzÜ’s waste management practices,
• Awareness on recycling and environmental responsibility was increased,
• Students participated in waste collection activities across the campus together with cleaning teams,
• Awareness and empathy towards cleaning operations were enhanced.

In the first part of the event, participants were informed about the waste management practices carried out at our university; in the following part, students were divided into groups and took part in field activities.

The event was carried out in collaboration with the Duyarlı ÖzÜ Volunteering Program and HSE Community, with contributions from the Social Change Volunteers Office, Sustainability & QHSE, OLTE, and Operations teams.

A total of approximately 600 students have participated in the six editions of this regularly organized event to date.
