Dr. Ayşe Hazar Köksal obtained her BA degree from Bosphorus University, Department of History in 1999; MA in 2002 with a thesis entitled “Reading Museums Through Technology” from Istanbul Technical University and Maastricht University (Netherlands), The International Master Programme: European Studies of Society, Science and Technology.

Her PhD degree is from Istanbul Technical University, Art History Department, with a thesis entitled “Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum in the process of the institutionalization of art”. During her PhD project, Dr. Köksal was awarded Fulbright Scholarship and affiliated with Tufts University(USA), Art History Department between 2008-2009 as visiting researcher. During her stay she had the chance to work with Prof. Dr. Andrew McClellan on art history and museum theories. Having worked as assistant researcher at İTÜ Institute of Social Science, Art History Deparment (2005-2011), as Dr. Assistant Researcher/Teaching Assistant at İTÜ, Fine Arts Department (2011-2012), Dr. Köksal instructed at the Mimar Fine Arts University, Art History Department and Kadir Has University, The School of Art and Design graduate and undergraduate courses as part time instructor. Additionally she instructed in 2009 and 2012 at Berlin Technical University, Art History Department graduate courses as visiting fellow .

Dr. Köksal regularly writes on contemporary art, museum, biennials and cultural institutions for several art journals such as Genç Sanat, Artist, Sanat Dünyamız as well as she is the member of International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and College Arts Association. Currently she holds the position of co-editor of E-Skop, Journal of Art History and Criticism and she also has published articles in international and national books and has presented papers in international and national conferences and symposia. The areas of research interests include art and museums, organizations of art world, museum and architecture, city imaginary, cultural policies, industry of culture and creative industries.
