 “VISIBLE LIGHT COMMUNICATION BASED BROADCASTING”

Abstract:

Visible Light Communication (VLC) uses light-emitting diodes (LED)s to transmit data by turning them on and off at very high speeds, too fast for the human eye to perceive. In outdoor environments, LED-based streetlights can be utilized as VLC transmitters. Given the ubiquity of streetlights, they are particularly useful for outdoor broadcasting as required in public safety systems. In this thesis, we develop an FPGA-based VLC system with on-off keying using an LED-based streetlight. The system is built upon the Eclypse Z7 FPGA platform integrated with opto-electronic transmitter and receiver front ends. We present bit error rate (BER) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance results in indoor and outdoor environments, at various transmission distances.

 

 

Bio:

Ibrahim Bağlıca is an Optical Engineer currently working as an Optical Systems Engineer at Hyperion Technologies. He received his B.Sc. in Optic & Acoustic Engineering from Gaziantep University, Gaziantep, Turkey, in 2020. He is currently pursuing an M.Sc. degree in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering department under the supervision of Prof. Murat Uysal at Ozyegin University, Istanbul, Turkey. During his graduate studies, he worked at the OKATEM laboratory at Ozyegin University. He published one conference paper. Also, he is part of two journals and two conference papers as an author. His current research interests include optical wireless communication, visible light communication, and experimental communication system design in optical fields.
