The 12th edition of our Sustainability Talks Series focus on food assurance and safety. The talk will feature Prof. Mustafa Koç, a faculty member at Ryerson University and a member of the Research Committee at the International Sociological Association, as invited speaker. Moderated by Dr. Lecturer Candan Türkkan from the School of Applied Sciences, the talk will address the following topics:

• Introduction: What are food assurance and food safety? Why are they important?
• What does sustainability tell us about food safety?  Can sustainable production serve as a solution for food assurance?
• Empirical comparison of the North America and Turkey in terms of food assurance
• Sustainability aims to offer a solution to food crises caused by the capitalist food system. However, it has never been tested with crises before. In particular, which weakness of sustainability as a paradigm have been/will be revealed by the ongoing pandemic crisis?

The event will take place online via Zoom on Monday, April 13, 2020 from 18:00 to 19:00. The event will be in Turkish.
