The Department of International Relations invites you to the online event titled "Russian Nationalism: From Imperial Russia to Russia under Putin" by Maria Lipman. The event will take place online via Zoom on the 22nd of December between 13.30-15.00pm.

Maria Lipman
MARIA LIPMAN is a Russian political analyst and commentator. She is a Senior Associate at PONARS Eurasia (Program on New Approaches to Research and Security in Eurasia), Institute of European, Eurasian and Russian Studies, George Washington University. Lipman is currently hosting the PONARS Eurasia podcast on Russia and Eurasia. From 1995 until 2019 Lipman was Deputy Editor or Editor of various Russian- and English-language publications (from 2003 until 2014 under the auspices of Carnegie Moscow Center). In 2017-2019 Lipman taught courses on today’s Russia at Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana) and Grinnell College (Iowa). From 2001 till 2011 Lipman wrote an op-ed column on Russia for the Washington Post. From 2012 till 2017 she wrote a blog for The New Yorker online https://www.newyorker.com/search/q/Masha+Lipman. She also contributed to a variety of Russian and US publications. Lipman’s recent publications include chapters: The Media, In Stephen Wegren (Ed) Putin’s Russia. Past Imperfect, Future Uncertain (2019); Media in Russia: Between Modernization and Monopoly In Daniel Treisman (Ed); The New Autocracy. Information, Politics, and Policy in Putin’s Russia (2018).
