Electoral Victories of the Far Right Parties in Hungary, Israel, and Italy
The Department of International Relations cordially invites you to the panel titled "Electoral Victories of the Far Right Parties in Hungary, Israel and Italy" with Dr. Yossi Harpaz, Dr. Endre Borbath and Dr. Valerio Alfonso Bruno.
The event will take place online via Zoom on the 2nd of December between 14:00-15:30.
Please click here for the event registration form. The Zoom link will be sent to the participants' emails half an hour before the event.
Join us in a discussion of recent electoral victories of the far right parties in Hungary (Fidesz), Israel (Likud), and Italy (FdI). Previous literature on the rise of far right parties focuses on cultural backlash or the effects of globalization as explanations. However, some country-specific variables might be necessary to explain these victories, such as COVID-19, economic problems, authoritarian nostalgia, minority issues, corruption, election systems, electoral manipulation, etc. In this panel, we will hear from three experts on the victories of the far-right parties in Hungary, Israel, and Italy to explain the support for Orban, Netanyahu, and Meloni. Our goal is to generate a comparative discussion on the global and country-specific factors and how they interact in specific places.
