Sectoral Orienteering: Media and Digitalization

As the department of International Relations, we are hosting a series of talks on the larger theme “politics in a digital age.” On 7 March we will have speakers on challenges and opportunities for news media in a digital age. The event will be held in AB2 room 101 between 12:40-14:00 (Aylin Yardımcı) and then between 14:00-15:20 (Koray Kaplıca).

Aylin Yardımcı is an editor at Medyascope.tv, an independent online news broadcasting platform founded in 2015. After graduating from the University of Sheffield with a BA diploma in Politics and Sociology, she earned an MSc degree in European Political Economy at the London School of Economics in 2010. She worked as a project officer at the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) before starting a PhD degree in International Relations at Koç University. She is currently working on her doctoral dissertation on emerging donors and foreign aid diplomacy.

Koray Kaplıca is the co-founder of İzlemedeyiz, an ambitious association that carries out data-driven social publishing and capacity building to foster Turkey's governance capacity. In 2014, İzlemedeyiz started Doğruluk Payı that is fact-checking statements of political actors and tracing promises of governments and sharing them via social-media integrated web portal. Koray acted as project coordinator and chief editor in Doğruluk Payı.  Previously, he had a B.A. degree in Political Science at Bilkent University and M.A. degree in International Relations at Koç University. He finished master thesis titled "Explaining Advocacy Agenda: Human Rights NGOs in Turkey" in 2012, which he studied advocacy agenda structure of three human rights NGOs in Turkey.
