Looking at the Course of the Relationship between the Center-Right and the Doctrinaire Right from the Perspective of Democratization (1983-2002)
Abstract:
The September 12 coup d'état and the political and legal framework constructed by the interim regime and the accumulation regime model on which this framework is based have largely determined the positioning of political actors and their relations with each other in Turkey. In the throes of the neoliberal transformation, the balance within center-right politics and the forms of cooperation and competition between center-right actors and doctrinaire right-wing currents have also shifted. In order to make sense of the zigzags in the adventure of democratization, it is of particular importance to examine these intricate relations from an analytical perspective. This study also aims to examine the political and social dynamics of the shift from the center to the doctrinaire right in Turkish politics between 1983 and 2002, and the new alignment in right-wing politics caused by the crisis of hegemony.
